Meet Melody Brooks-Johnson, MS
From Dream to Disruptor:
A Journey Fueled by Vision and Purpose
Her career took her beyond borders—teaching in South Korea, where she was deeply inspired by innovative early childhood practices that could transform urban classrooms back home. She returned with a mission: to infuse those proven strategies into schools serving Black and Brown children—children who had long been underserved and underestimated.
Over nearly two decades, Melody has worn many hats: Kindergarten and Pre-K teacher, Instructional Coach, Faculty College Instructor, Curriculum Specialist, Director of Early Childhood Programs, and now Founder and CEO of The Brooks-Johnson Group. Each role sharpened her focus and fueled her commitment to one revolutionary idea:
There is a better way to educate young children, and she would lead the change.
That calling led her to create The Urban Advantage ECE Framework™, a groundbreaking model rooted in connection, engagement, and self-actualization. Inspired by the theories of Maslow, Vygotsky, and Bloom, Melody built a framework that places emotional safety and meaningful relationships at the foundation so children can thrive intellectually. It emphasizes the creation of optimal learning environments through structured guidance, consistent systems for productivity, and intentional engagement strategies. The framework prioritizes trust, rich language, and higher-order thinking—because when we elevate intellect early, we equip children to analyze, create, and innovate long before elementary school. Because the goal is urgent and clear:
We cannot afford for young learners to remain stagnant. We must nurture the critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow; starting before age five.
Melody’s work has transformed classrooms and communities. Educators praise her for elevating teacher confidence, improving instructional practices, and boosting student outcomes. Her coaching, training, and frameworks have empowered hundreds of teachers to stop surviving and start thriving; fueling real change that lasts.
Today, Melody wakes up driven by a vision few see but many feel. She spots solutions to problems others haven’t named yet. A national presenter, thought leader, innovator, and systems thinker, Melody is rewriting the narrative on early childhood education.
Her mission?
To ensure every child—especially those in Title 1 and historically underserved communities—gets the powerful start they deserve. Because the future of our society depends on how well we equip our youngest learners today.
